Instagram Link Party: Don Draper’s Favorite, The Old Fashioned

So, who else enjoyed the premiere of Mad Men last night?  I won’t spoil anything for those who haven’t gotten the opportunity to watch yet, but I must say I loved it!  I wish every episode was 2 hours like the premiere.  I’m so glad my show is back!

To celebrate, we decided to make our own swanky Mad Men-inspired cocktails.  We chose Don Draper’s personal favorite, the Old Fashioned, made, of course, with his favorite Canadian Club whiskey (which incidentally made a brief cameo in last night’s episode during the birthday party scene!).

Don Draper’s “Old Fashioned” Cocktail

  • 1 orange slice
  • 1 maraschino cherry
  • small amt of club soda
  • a tsp of sugar
  • a few dashes of angostura bitters
  • 2.5 oz of Canadian Club whiskey

Muddle the orange slice, cherry, sugar, bitters, and club soda together to make a fruity paste.  Add the whiskey and serve over rocks.  Enjoy!

Linking up with the weekly Instagram link party over at a {little} dash of ash!

  1. The old fashion is such a funny name for a drink. I was pretty pleased to see the return of Mad Men last weekend, but it always takes me a few episodes to get back into their groove. I think because its slow and understated (the complete opposite of every other tv show out there now). I came over from a dash of ash’s instagram linky party. It’s a pretty fantastic idea. I linked up a little photo contest to celebrate my 2 favorite things : crafts & instagram. But I’ll be back for more!

    • You’re right that it’s definitely more subtle than most shows, but sometimes that’s exactly what I’m looking for. I’m also a huge fan of Downton Abbey, which is almost all dialogue-driven with very little action, but the characters are so intriguing. I think that’s really what a high drama show like Mad Men or Downton needs…fascinating characters. Luckily both shows do!

      Thanks for stopping by!
